Portland Fire Department If you live inside the city limits, the Portland Fire Department will handle all fire calls to your home. This is part of what your tax dollars pay for. The Portland Fire Department also responds to medical calls (assisting Sumner County Emergency Medical Services) inside the city limits. Everyone on the Fire Department who responds has been medically trained to assist Sumner County EMS with any type of call. If you live outside the city limits, you can fill out a form at the fire department office on North Broadway. In case of a fire at your location, the City of Portland will respond if they have that form on file. There is no charge to fill out the form. There is a charge of approximately $500.00 if the Portland Fire Department does respond (whether or not there is actually a fire.) Check with your insurance carrier as many: 1) want you to fill out the form, and 2) will pay the $500.00 in case you are charged for it.
